History
2025
2025 was a historic season for 2152. The new generation of students within 2152 wanted to embrace the foundation of the team. This birthed the SMASHing Safety Program, in which we strived to promote a safety-first mindset in FIRST Robotics. During the Orlando Regional. SMASH was selected with the very last pick in alliance selection by Alliance 1: Team 180 S.P.A.M. and Team 179 Children of the Swamp. SMASH played defense for the 2 powerhouse teams, ultimately winning the regional together, granting 2152 their first-ever regional win. At the Bayou Regional, 2152 was selected late by Alliance 5. Playing defense, again, 2152 was then eliminated in the semifinals due to a redcard. At the Bayou Regional, our efforts to define who SMASH was paid off, winning us the Imagery Award. Not only that, but at the Bayou Regional, Ryan Hubbs won the Dean’s List Finalist Award.

2024
In 2024, at the South Florida Regional, 2152 had their FIRST chance at being picked for an alliance since COVID. 2024 consisted of learning and rebuilding.

2023
2023 marked a new beginning for 2152. We had lost many of our connections, students, and knowledge. 2023 was the first time since 2019 that the team was able to compete at a competition. Making light of the team’s state, at the South Florida Regional, Kim Stears won the Woodie Flowers Finalist Award for SMASH. Additionally, at the Tallahassee Regional, 2152 made a playoff appearance as a backup and won the Team Spirit Award.
2022-2020
2020-2022, 2152 started the season normally, and unexpectedly, at our first competition of the year: the Orlando Regional, COVID-19 forced FIRST to cancel the regional. From 2021-2022, 2152 was mostly shut down and struggling.
2019
2019 was a historic year for 2152; we were finalists at the Orlando Regional as Alliance 1: Team 180 S.P.A.M. and Team 3556 GET SMART. Not only did we find success with the robot at the Orlando Regional, but we also won the Chairman’s Award, giving us our 3rd consecutive FIRST World Championship bid. We also won the Excellence in Engineering Award at the South Florida Regional. With that, 2152 proceeded to be an alliance captain in the Galileo Division and made it all the way to the semifinals.

2018
2018, similar to the year previous, our outreach efforts won us Engineering Inspiration at the South Florida Regional for the 2nd year in a row. At the Palmetto Regional, we won the Innovation in Control Award for the first time. We made our 2nd official trip to the FIRST World Championship. 2018 also landmarked our TDI (Total District Implementation) program. With this, 2152 strived to make every school in Volusia County have a FIRST Team.
2017
In 2017, our hard work at focusing on our outreach paid off. At the South Florida Regional, we were the 6th alliance captain, and we won the Engineering Inspiration Award. This award granted 2152 their first-ever bid to the FIRST World Championships.
2016
In 2016, 2152 was an alliance captain at the South Florida Regional and was eliminated in the quarterfinals. During the 2016 season, we created our first major outreach program, called R.O.T.R. (Robots On The Road). R.O.T.R. was a program designed to show off to our community how we are changing education. It utilized previous FIRST robots and our six-barrel t-shirt cannon.
2015
2015 was a year of outreach for 2152 with a record number of events (30+) attended by the team. With the lessons learned during our season competitions, we focused on iteration and building the foundation for better design develop moving forward. We also help our largest week long summer camp event in 2015.
2014
In 2014, 2152 became an alliance captain at both regionals attended; however, we failed to make it past quarterfinals in playoffs.
2013
2013 consisted of a rough build season with an interesting robot design, winning 2152 the creativity award. The team failed to successfully build the robot until the offseason.
2012
2012, the year Team 2152 rebranded to SMASH, was the first time in team history we made playoffs, not just made playoffs, but we were the captain of the 7th Alliance. With the big rebranding, we also won the Imagery award.
2007-2011
From 2007-2011, 2152 started as an after-school club, in which we attended the Florida Regional, and each season the team failed to get selected for playoffs or win any awards. In 2010, the founder of Team 2152, Mrs. Urquhart, wanted to spread the students’ passion for robotics and created a self-sustainable, full-day robotics academy that modeled FIRST’s principles.
